Before we get into it, if you want the lowdown on what Matcha is head here.
So now you know about Matcha, but not totally sure why you would drink it. There are really 2 key benefits that Matcha has over almost all other teas and drinks in general (bold statement), so here goes.
1.) Natural caffeine + amino acid L’theanine
Because Matcha is shade-grown just before being picked, dried and ground, the leaf itself fights for the limited sunlight. This causes the leaf to supercharge all sorts of nutrients, with natural caffeine and L-theanine being 2 of the biggest. The caffeine within Matcha helps stimulate the nervous system, whilst at the same time, the amino acid L-theanine calms and focuses the brain. This powerful duo work in harmony for no crash natural energy. Anyway, here’s world-renowned psychologist Dr. Weil on the Joe Rogan show to explain (24 secs):
2.) Antioxidant levels off-the-chart
For 2 reasons, the antioxidant levels in Matcha are intense. First - Back to the shade growing. With the lack of sunlight, the amount of antioxidants in the Matcha leaves skyrockets. Combine that with drinking the whole leaf instead of just infused water - you would have to drink up to 10 cups of regular green tea to get a similar amount of antioxidants as 1 cup of Matcha. Crazy, right? Not just that, but the antioxidants found in Matcha aren’t really found in other foods - known as Catechins. The key antioxidant being EGCg, which helps counteract the effects of free radicals from things like pollution, UV rays, radiation, and chemicals. Now, crazy, right?!
